Redescription

HEAD
face upper and central portion of upper face with usual compliment of hairs, the longer hairs black and erect, the shorter hairs dirty yellow and somewhat procumbent, these latter grading into sparse, procumbent black or dirty yellow hairs laterally, which project over the gibbosity to each side; hairs on gibbosity erect, most are black but a few in the center are yellow; remaining hairs black; area framed on each side of the oral margin by the gibbosity dorsally, and the inner margin of the eye dorsolaterally, is bare

beard entirely black in male; black in female, except for yellow hairs at extreme upper margin, in area behind top of eye

    hairs underneath the proboscis black

palpal hairs black on both segments

THORAX
postpronotal lobes with long yellow hairs

mesonotum with a ground color of blue black; covered with long yellow hairs; anterior to transverse suture about equal numbers of these hairs either erect or recumbent, the latter of which more-or-less obscure the ground color; posterior to the suture the hairs are all erect and somewhat longer than those anteriorly, letting the ground color show through; in the area of the suture itself the hairs are sparser, and from the effect of the substrate showing through more strongly than either anteriorly or posteriorly, give the impression of a wide, faint, indistinct transverse darker band; posterior calli with long yellow hairs; as is usual these hairs are longer than those on the anterior mesonotum

tuft of hairs in front of wings yellow

tuft of hairs in front of haltere entirely yellow

scutellar hairs on disk medium length, yellow, and slanted at about a 45 degree angle backwards; on margin long, erect, and yellow

ground color of legs from a distance the ground color appears to be black, but when viewed with a dissecting microscope, from an angle the surface appears to be blue black, and when viewed directly, that is from right angles, with artificial light, it appears to be very dark reddish brown; the surface is also highly reflective and where yellow hairs are present on the tibiae, reflects these as reddish brown

fore- and mid-tibiae entire posterior surface of fore-tibia and anterior, dorsal, and posterior surface of mid-tibiae, with yellow hairs

hind tibiae mesal third of posterior surface with sparse yellow hair, which is most distinct when viewed from above level of fly

hind femora line of scattered yellow hairs stretching from base to about three fourths way to apex; also "knee" or apex with conspicuous dorsal tuft of yellow hairs

ABDOMEN
abdominal segments tergites 1-3 in both male and female and anterior four-fifths of tergite 4 in female, covered with long yellow hair, except for along extreme lateral margins, where there are long black hairs; rest of tergites entirely covered with long black hair
